Below is a list of definitions of the data fields for the recommendations section of the EPAR.
1. xyscaling
numeric range
Recommendations for use of the font when scaling either x or y alone expressed as min/max % of em. Only one number (X)), is required because the value represents the range from 100% to X%.
Example: "12"
2. bold
numeric percent
Recommendations for bolding of the font expressed in % of em
Example: "12"
3. curvebase
alphanumeric text
Recommendations for use of the font with curved baseline
Example: "make recommendations here"
4. decontext
alphanumeric text
Recommendations for use of the font without feature tables regarding glyph substitution
Example: "make recommendations here"
5. decompose
alphanumeric text
Recommendations for use of the font with decomposited glyphs
Example: "don't"
6. justify
binary Y/N
This is a a binary recommendation, where the font either should or should not have inter letter space added to fit a line to a column width, for reasons in the design of the font
Example: "N"
7. hyphen
binary Y/N
This is a a binary recommendation, where the font either should or should not have words broken at line ends for reasons of the design of the font.
Example: "Y"
8. ltrspace
numeric percent range
Recommendations for the positive and negative addition of space between letters in percent of em
Example: " +5:-10"
9. oblique
numeric range of angles
Recommendations for the positive or negative angles for slanting the font
Example: "-10:+12"
10. overscale
numeric %em, upm, pixel#
Recommendations for minimal scaling of the font: smallest critical part (by % of em), largest upm per pixel, smallest number of x-ht pixels
Example: " 5:4:6"
11. scaling
numeric pts. pts, pts, pts; pxls, pxls, pxls, pxls
Recommendations for optimal scaling of the font: in points: text optimal, text minimal, display optimal, display minimal; and in pixels: text optimal, text minimal, display optimal point, display minimal
Example: "12:10:18:14:15:12:23:16"
12. strike
alphanumeric Y/N
Recommendations for use of the font with an automatically generated stroke through the glyphs
Example: "Y"
13. stroke
numeric percent
Recommendation for definition of the font's contours as other than zero stroke width: maximum stroke value in % of upm
Example: "2"
14. textset
alphanumeric number
Recommendation for Ideal length of a line of text in this font, in number of words
Example: "21"
15. uninstruct
numeric psls, pxls, pxls
Recommendations for use of the glyph table's TrueType instructions. Minimum pixels per em with: no instructions, no x instructions, no y instructions
Example: "9:10:11"
16. unkern
binary Y/N
Recommendation for use of the font with no pairs kerned
Example: "Y"
17. underscore
binary Y/N
Recommendation for use of the font with an automatically generated stroke below the glyphs
Example: "N"
